Artist description
oSKa are a Wellington(NZ) based Powerpop Extravaganza!! They have spent their time since forming in 2000,locked away in Oldschools Dads basement crafting a myriad of tunes that are rocking the asses off their ever increasing fan base. From their first single 'Mi Casa Su Casa', a feel-good summer classic, to the latest string of hits yet undiscovered, this band just gets better with age(like cheese!?!). As does their live act which always promises a few surprises!!! - S Williams, óSKà |

Artist History
Formed in August 2000 when Oldschool offered to help Simon out by recording some of his songs. A few weeks later the two organised a jam at their work (after closing time of course!) with about 9 colleagues, all of which had some musical abilities. We got our first noise control notice that night!! (lol :-)
. . . . .
9 became 3 and Chris, Aaron & Si (Bass, Guitar & Guitar/Vox) started working on some ideas. An old buddy Rick was added on the drums and we were off to our first gig on the 1st of December 2000.
. . . . .
One year, one short film project & three drummers later we entered into the 2001 RAW Battle of the Bands, with Kirsty on drums. We came a very close second in Wellington (Capital of New Zealand), behind our lead singers side project!
. . . . .
One year, one drummer & two demo recording sessions later we received a recording grant from the government. We headed to Auckland (New Zealand) with producer Malcolm Foster (Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Elton John etc) and recorded 'Mi Casa Su Casa' at New Zealands best, York Street Studios.
. . . . .
'Mi Casa Su Casa' debuted on Channel Z on Saturday, 8 Dec 2002. By Friday, 13 Dec 2002 it was up to 17th on their National Listeners Response chart. This chart includes international acts like Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age etc.
. . . . .
Never missing a placing, on the 5th of February 2003 'Mi Casa Su Casa' reached #4 on the chart.
. . . . .
25th of Februrary the 'Mi Casa Su Casa' video appeared on New Zealands only music channel, Juice TV.
. . . . .
March 2003. oSKa topped the Rock & Pop charts above other NZ acts like The Datsuns & Nesian Mystik on www.amplifier.co.nz |
