Artist History
Tom began his professional career as an Equity actor at age 13, singing Friedrich in SOUND OF MUSIC at Chicago's Candlelight Dinner Playhouse. He moved to Memphis in 1980 and went on to appear in WEST SIDE STORY, ANDROCLESE & THE LION, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, 1776, CHICAGO, NO NO NANETTE, BARNUM, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and BABY! Taking a respite from theatre activity in order to focus on his work as a senior systems analyst, he concentrated on concert music and performed as a soloist with the Gary Beard Chorale at Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall), Charleston's Spoleto Festival, Helena's Warfield Concerts, Opera Memphis and various venues throughout the south. He also served as Musical Director for productions at Theatre Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, Germantown Theatre and the Panola Playhouse. He returned to the stage in 1994, playing Bill Calhoun/Lucentio in KISS ME, KATE for Florida's Treasure Coast Opera, who immediately reengaged him for their next season's production of OKLAHOMA!. His 1994 portrayal of Bazzard in Theatre Memphis's THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD was acclaimed by the Memphis Commercial Appeal, which said "(His) wonderful tenor has too seldom gotten the prominence it deserves, but it certainly does in Never the Luck..." and by the Memphis Flyer's opinion that "...he makes (Never the Luck) a dazzling audition piece for Thespis that nearly stops the show." Beginning in 1995, Tom began 2 seasonal runs of 'Forever Plaid' as Frankie and then began his persuit of the Cabaret genre. His first album, 'Something That I Wanted You To Know' is a culmination of several shows that he has done. |
