Artist History
Jim Baron is an intellectual rebel with a flair for high energy rock 'n' roll. His presence, his lively performances and smart lyrics make for one of the most unique and exciting acts seen or heard in years.
In 1995 Jim released his first solo EP, Not For Nothing. It featured live studio takes of Jim on vocals and guitars, accompanied by keyboards and percussion. Not For Nothing garnered regional recognition for Jim in the Northeast as he soon became an established solo act for the next four years with his unique blend of pop, rock and roots music.
In 1997 Jim began supplementing his income from live performances and CD sales by busking the streets and subways of NYC. He soon became a local musical icon for his socially and politically conscious material that he put forth on 1997's Now! and other self-made renegade releases, and he became a regular guest on New York's WBAI radio station and a popular performer at protest rallies.
In 1998 Jim was a featured performer at the Burn Fest Music Festival in Pennsylvania and was prominently included on a compilation CD of the event.
Soon afterwards Jim completed a limited-run self-titled album comprised of alt-country and rockabilly tunes he had written between 1996 and 2000. On the album, Jim sang and played acoustic and electric guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica and percussion.
Since then, Jim has performed regularly at New York rock music venues both as a soloist and with backing musicians. Jim continues to write prolifically and his new seven song EP Chameleon has been released this August, 2003. It contains some of his finest work to date, so check it out! |
