Press Reviews
this is a review i got from resonance "Furway decay-More art than music we feel, "b.m.v.v0311" had an interesting tangent of amplified water dropping like drums which occasionally gained a rhythmical element, but was ultimately far beyond the understanding of your common listener. "road map with twinkling traffic" Began with a pretty cool sounding droning, distorted pad which eventually grappled together with one of the most oddest, purposefully underquantised and randomly strung drum loops I ever heard. I think the very ideas trying to be expressed here are either way beyond the common term of "music" and sits more in the genre of "expression". So to be honest, I cant really see any success for furway in the music biz. "I had a quarrel with aaron" was more along the same lines, accept this time having less of the random quality in the drumming. Crazy sounding arps sounded a little flat and at times annoying. Very squarepusher in style, good creativity and experimentation, but my advice would be to attempt things on a more musical level rather than trying too hard to express yourself. Get a career in music, then you can do concept stuff like this and get away with it...hey, aphex twin did it right? you can too. Keep it up. 12/25"
another review from resonance, this time round is slightly better "Furway decay- "come together" had a real, warm old underworld feel with its soft 4/4 beat and very mellow drifting bass line and surrounding pads. The proverbial pieces of the puzzle all intertwined really well with the kind of melting effect of each track slowly drifting into the next, and gave the whole song a real feel of subliminal evolution. Was quite a good listen, but the other guys here found it a little too laborious to listen to, and did not share my sentiment! (would you believe it..the first time we have actually disagreed on a track!). "oyster (that pussy cat)" was a tune that could not decide which direction it wanted to go in, it was very creative and had some really interesting slants, but the muffled jungle beat just did not work for me. The arp a around the 5min mark I felt should have been built upon, because it was sounding great, but was swallowed up by the rather overbearing and noisy pad. "Metallic sleeep" was very creative, and pretty original with its almost watery drums and some of the weirdest little percussive elements ever, and one of the things I felt stood out the most was the randomality factor, of which he had reached without losing the general structure of the tune. Music from the digital tribe (hey, theres a name for ya next track!) is the best way to describe it, and I liked it. Another near miss in this great month for unsigned artists! 16/25" |
