Artist History
Bobby Coates grew up in Baton Rouge listening to rock, playing the classics on piano and later becoming absorbed with what was considered (at the time) to be alternative music. Growing up in Louisiana, he was always exposed to blues and jazz. While still in high school, he cut his musical teeth playing bass with Tribe, a Baton Rouge band that played several nights a week and concentrated on rock and blues covers. During college, he switched over to a band that played on weekends until he started a family and a "real" career in engineering. After a divorce, there was suddenly some free time. So after work on an island off North Carolina, he would start his second shift playing again (bass and keyboards) with "Nightshift", a hard rock cover band. That ended when he returned to Louisiana for graduate school. Finally, he started playing the style of music that he enjoyed most. You can hear some of it now on this website. |
