    Artist History
Nothing for now is a melodic new age rock band with four of the most diverse, young and talented kids in southern Utah. With a wide variety of personalities, their passion for music pulls them together to create...Something Else. With open minds to music, their influences range from Thrice and The Used to the Beatles and the Doors. Each one of the members brings something special to the table hoping to share their music with the world. We got our start in the fall of 2001. Guitarist Jake Reed, a Radio Head, Beach Boys influenced natural musician, and Vocalist, Frontman Dan Reed, fueled from the roots of The Smashing Pumpkins, and Incubus, had just moved to Cedar City from the tiny town of Ely, Nevada. The brothers had been in previous bands and had done some acoustic work together. Their first recording experience resulted in an incredible acoustic album called The Jake and Dan show. Meanwhile, the two other members of the band, drummer Breyde Bentley, a Nine Inch Nails, AFI enthusiast, and bass player Colin Howells, a Pennywise, Good Riddance charged skateboarder, were on the verge of band breakups in their hometown of Cedar City. Colin and his band Labels Confined had just finished their first CD only to break up over religios issues a month later. Breyde’s band Kid Icurus broke up over very similar issues the very day of their first CD release. It was on Breyde’s final performance with Kid Icurus that he met Dan. Dan approached Breyde wanting to jam with him and his brother. Breyde was reluctant because he had already started jamming with a really good guitar player he met the week before. Dan kept telling him that his brother was amazing on the guitar, but Breyde was positive his guy was better. They soon came to find out they were talking about the same guy. So we got together to jam, the only problem was we didn’t have a bass player. Well have no fear, on the bands first jam Colin Just happened to be hanging out in a nearby bedroom having a private party with a certain someone. We interrupted his fun and told him to come and play. He was a little mad, but soon got over it. In six months time we had amassed a ton of songs and a rapidly growing fan base. We decided to record our first album. Since we were doing it for free at our high school there wasn’t much pressure. The album was called Means To An End, which had many good songs on it but still wasn’t quite Nothing for Now’s true style. After playing several shows with bands such as Somewhat Random - Cedar City, Unfold - St. George, Day 2 - SLC, A-gang - SLC and many others, we had sold out of our initial pressing of 350 copies. The next six months is when we really started seeing our true music making capabilities come to life. Talent wise, all of our new songs had surpassed those on our first CD. The band was a group, together now more together than ever before. Jakes amazing talents were starting to truly show. Breyde really stepped it up giving the songs some of the fastest drumming we had ever witnessed. Colin’s bass playing and songwriting had come a long way and he stepped up to the rest of the band with ease. Dan’s lyrics really need no explanation. The poetic harmony he gives them is genius. These songs will be stuck in your heads for days. We soon decided to record our second CD in December of 2002. Although we were very grateful for having the opportunity to record for free at our high school we wanted to go in a different direction for this album. We wanted a representation of our work that we could be proud of. After searching many studios, we finally decided to record at Spiral Studio’s in St. George. This was one of the best decisions we have made as a band. The guys at Spiral are great to work with and very professional. The self-titled CD sounds outstanding and we are very proud of it. As soon as this CD was released things started going well for us. We started booking shows, with big crowds. We were receiving super positive response and the CD’s started selling like crazy. Nothing for Now has really brought the young music culture back to Cedar City. After bands such as the Soulutions from Cedar had dissolved, the scene had virtually died. We were just determined to bring it back, it seems we are doing a pretty good job of it. Our fan base just keeps getting bigger and bigger. We want to spread our music to everyone and just have fun giving it to our fans. If you haven’t seen us live yet, you should come out to a show. They are a lot of fun and extremely entertaining. We play some pretty cool music too. So come to a show, get our new album and spread the sound.
