Artist description
At 23 years of age, Sara Beck is an artist who is already beginning to distinguish herself as an explosive vocalist, a thought-provoking writer, and a dynamic performer. Originally from the Baltimore area, Beck grew up performing with her family in the mid-Atlantic region and has been making music throughout the Southeast since relocating to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University in 1997.
January 2002 marks the release of her first full-length album, Open Window. Beck penned eight of the album’s eleven tracks and co-wrote two others with frequent collaborator, Park Chisolm. The material is a departure from her debut EP(Sara Beck, 2000); the album showcases a maturing writer delving into brighter, more melodic territory while retaining a keen eye for the world around her. Producer Eric Fritsch contributes a lush landscape for Beck’s colorful lyrics and captivating vocals.
Evident on both Open Window and 2000’s Sara Beck is an intensity that has been grabbing the attention of Nashville fans for two years. Beck’s vocal style alternates between a sultry smoothness similar to that of contemporary jazz vocalist, Diana Krall, and a soaring clarity reminiscent of Alison Krauss. Always, Beck sings with a subtle expressiveness, approaching slow tunes and rockers alike with a combination of control and abandon.
Her influences range from her family’s Country/Western roots to musical theater and a cappella singing. A fan of Etta James, Neil Young, and Willie Nelson alike, Beck’s work is rooted in a variety of traditions. Her songwriting has been recognized in songwriting competitions sponsored by Gibson Guitars and Tennessee Parks and Greenways, and her easy, engaging presence on stage continues to draw new fans with every performance.

Press Reviews
“Beck’s sultry, acoustic Americana genuinely evokes the American landscape-and the world-weary, jaded, still-defiantly-hopeful people inhabiting it…Sara Beck takes us on a mysteriously compelling inner journey-to an evocative place where folk meets blues meets testament.”
-Dave Carew, www.popshot.net
“A strong vocalist with ties to the bluegrass of the mountains and the blues of the Mississippi, Beck will, no doubt, soon come into her own. Sensual vocals…and well-orchestrated instrumentation come together in a beautiful meld…whether folky or sexy, Beck’s words paint a beautiful picture of life, love, and spirituality that is a welcome change.”
-TJ Smith, Southeast Performer
“Beck has a pure, sweet voice reminiscent of Alison Krauss…rack up this CD and think cozy fire, a glass of wine, and loving.”
