Artist description
Just when the man’s world seems to take the mundane and boring to yet another abysmal level, and you think that you will puke if you hear another former prefabricated Mouseketeer with boob job who can’t write her own song or even play chopsticks on the piano (the acrylic nails get in the way, you know)…enter the Pinkslips to restore your faith in rock and humanity (well, the humanity part may be impossible).
The fates, the desire to become more proficient with their respective instruments and a newspaper ad brought these purveyors of pop/rock together just a few short months ago and now they are set for their first show at the Cave on 2nd January, thanks to the kindness of Mouse and the Laramie UK.
The songs are catchy with an edge: “It’s like Tool meets the Go-Go’s”, says Ryan Pickett (Queen Sara Saturday, Collapsis). |

Artist History
It was a dark and stormy night in the Summer of 2002. Leigh Fox (bass, vocals, guitar sometimes) was at yet another rock show in Chapel Hill, NC. She enjoyed live music a lot, and had even played in an ill-fated band (Perfekta) two years ago, but since that messy break-up had not found another musical outlet.
It was a dark and stormy night. Beth Mosher (guitar, vocals, bass sometimes) was playing with Mike Love (her cat) and reading a biography on Keith Moon. Beth paused and though about all of her musical friends, and all the time she had spent practicing with Faustina (a girl band) not too long ago, only for their show and her long awaited musical debut to be canceled.
One bright and sunny morning, Leigh woke up and walked up to Franklin Street for some coffee. As she perused the Musician's Exchange in the Independent for interesting ads, she had an epiphany. "That's it!", she declared, "There aren't enough girl bands around here. I am starting one today." She placed an ad in the Independent that very afternoon, and within a week she and Beth had met, giggled over coffee and band stories, and were committed to starting Chapel Hill's greatest, fun-nest, cutest, most innovative all-girl band to date!
Beth and Leigh jammed with some other girls, and started writing their own songs, but a month went by and still they had not found their drummer and their complete line up. "What are we going to do?" exclaimed Leigh. "I know someone who might work", replied Beth, with an air of promise.
A few nights later, Leigh met Beth's friend Elizabeth Hammond (drums, vocals, and other stuff too) at a show at Go! Studios, and she instantly felt "this is our band". Elizabeth had played drums in the past and had a keen rock sensibility. The girls started practicing at Go! Studios, and within the month a drum kit had been acquired, songs were flowing forth, the girls were committed to rock, and everything fell together in an unbelievably magnificent way.
With the support of their friends and their desire to rock, The Pinkslips are developing a spicy rock-pop sound. Catchy songs, up-tempo beats, and a true indie authenticity make this band great. Everything has happened so quickly, we will just have to wait and see what the future brings for our heroines…. With much work and enthusiasm, they plan to record their debut album (title undetermined) in January.
