ARTIST: PROJECT SKYWARD
SONG: SHINE (INTERSTELLAR MIX)
GENRE: ELECTRONIC / AMBIENT/BLISSBEAT
SIMILAR: LOVESLIESCRUSHING, ISABEL'S DREAM, SEEFEEL
First time I found out about this band was when their CD showed up at my radio station. Now, I'm generally out of it when it comes to today's music, but I'm still rarely surprised the way I was by Project Skyward.
"Shine [Interstellar Mix]" is probably closest in heritage to the experiments that Slowdive pulled with electronics, for the tiniest bit of their career (basically "Souvlaki Space Station"). The "similar artists" field up above tells you everyone else who's followed up on that idea since then.
Take a filtered drum line, toss on a pile of wall-of-bliss guitar and a really simple bass line, and you've got the essence of this song. But I can't criticize something that's so good just because it's so easy to do - fact is, when you compare this song to the best (beat-oriented) stuff by Scott Cortez, or anything by Isabel's Dream or Seefeel, "Shine [Interstellar Mix]" just automatically comes out on top. If any of the dance clubs had DJs with the slightest bit of adventurism, this thing could even be a club single - with better drum sound, I guess.
It's really that damn good.
I'm hogging all the good taste....
