Artist description
Tiger Rag was formed in Chicago by Chase Duncan and Brian Lubinsky in January of 2002. What began as an odd combination of noise guitar and big band tom beats quickly evolved into an intensely rhythmic rock and roll band subtlely informed by international influences. Infusing the melodicism and sonic inventiveness of REM, Yo La Tengo, Fugazi, and Talking Heads with the grit of The Stooges and Rolling Stones as well as the supple grooves of Desmond Dekker, Sam Cooke, and King Sunny Ade, Tiger Rag has created an idiosyncratic yet broadly accessible sound.
The group, including an interim bass player, played shows in Chicago throughout 2002, winning over both audiences and fellow musicians. By early 2003, it had become apparent that the bass playing role was not being adequately filled, and the decision was made to play as a two piece until a suitable permanent member was found. Duncan and Lubinsky have continued playing two man shows ever since. Having recently recorded a three song demo CD at Semaphore Studios with Lubinsky doubling on bass, Tiger Rag is now focused on recruiting a capable bass player and taking their music to a wider audience.
