Artist History
The 1981 Libra-Scorpio known as Prolific was born an only child, and raised in Uniondale NY (Long Island). In Middle School, he wrote poetry for a required class project, and his mother submitted them to poetry contests. He didn't win a single dime, but was published in 7 anthologies at the age of 12, making him the youngest in each volume. The death of André, his 12 year old 1st cousin & artistic comrade the same year caused him to eventually write what he considers to be his first real poem.
Inspired primarily by Langston Hughes & Tupac Shakur, he worked on honing his poetic craft, learning the power of resonance from both artists. Poetry became a voice for him to express not only his personal pain & anger, but those of young black America as well. His enrollment at Cornell University exposed him for the first time to performance poetry, and provided his first poetry performance before a large audience at a talent show. "Cornell made me realize just how powerful my words could be. Hunter gave me confidence." After transferring to Hunter College, he began to explore the NYC slam & open mic arena, particularly frequenting 'a little bit louder' @ 13 bar/lounge. He long has sought to start his own artist's collective, and being a co-founding member of the Cataclysm, a hip-hop/spoken word fusion group, brings that dream into reality.
The book of poetry he is currently working on he plans to release in 2004, as well as his solo album. He seeks to live out the true meaning of his name (Timothy means "honoring God"), and dedicates all of his work to the Lord, his family, and the ancestors. |
