Artist description
PREDRAG GOSTA, conductor, baritone, harpsichordist & organist, was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He showed his interest in music very early. First he studied violin, and later he continued his classical music education in music theory, voice, piano, organ, harpsichord, conducting and composition at Belgrade University of Arts. In 1996, he was awarded a full scholarship from Trinity College of Music in London, where he studied with well known and established artists in the field, such as Omar Ebrahim (voice), Robert Aldwinckle (harpsichord), Philip Thorby (early music), John Winter (organ), Martyn Hill (voice), Ian Partrige (voice), Rebecca Miles (Baroque Ensemble), John Hancorn (voice and choral ensemble), Linda Hirst (voice), John Winter (organ), and others. He received his degree in 1997, and in 1998 he received the Postgraduate Certificate in Performance. After Trinity, he was awarded a full scholarship and graduate assistantship from the School of Music of Georgia State University, studying voice (with Dwight Coleman), Choral Conducting (with Alan Raines) and Instrumental Conducting (with Julian Shew). He received the Master of Music degree in May of 2000. Predrag attended numerous masterclasses and courses – particularly in historical performance – under the direction of well-known artists such as Emma Kirkby, Evelyn Tubb, Jennifer Lane, Anthony Rooley, Colin Tilney, James Johnstone, Micaela Comberti, Michael Fields, Robert Hollingworth, Ivor Bolton, Paul Esswood, James Bowman, Matthias Nagel, The Dufay Collective and others. As a conductor, he directed groups such as Georgia State’s University Singers and Choral Society, Chamber Choir Canticum Novum, and Emory University’s Oxford Chorale. With the Choir of NTB he conducted the Monteverdi Vespers in May of this year, and Henry Purcell’s famous opera “Dido & Aeneas”. Predrag is the founder of the Yugoslav early music association and ensemble, Studio for Early Music; he was Artistic Director of the Belgrade International Early Music Festival since 1991, and Editor-In-Chief of the first Yugoslav magazine for early music Continuo (since 1994). He is also the president of the international early music association Early Music Network, Director of Music at All Saints Lutheran Church, and serves on the board of the Atlanta Early Music Alliance. |
