Artist History
Erin Hobson Band Bio
Erin Hobson is a unique artist with a true passion and love for music. She is a hidden secret, combining soulful songwriting and amazing guitar playing into a style that is all her own. Erin's entire package can only be experienced live where she thrills audiences with high-energy performances and exciting musicianship. With the release of her first full length album, "The Good Stuff" and the addition of her new bassist, William Huyett, Erin is ready to let her secret out and her talents be known.
This young singer/songwriter began studying guitar at age 11 in her hometown of Rhinebeck, NY. Of course there were many years of Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne covers, but Erin soon became bored of the rock scene and wanted to excel at all styles of music. Her determination paid off and by 16, she was performing in Jazz bars alongside her guitar teacher, Steve Gravino. "People always got a kick out of seeing this teenage girl jamming with a bunch of 40 year old men and playing her butt off."
In 1994, Erin entered SUNY New Paltz as a Jazz Performance Major, but after 3 semesters, decided to quit and move to Los Angeles, CA. "In the beginning I wanted to be a professional Jazz guitarist, but I realized that every time I sat down to practice, I would end up writing a song. My goal became to connect with people's emotions and pull them in with my voice and what I am singing about."
Since her move to Los Angeles, Erin has played hundreds of shows as a solo artist as well as in band situations. Her old band, That Fat Frog was booked 3 or more times a week in coffee shops, small clubs, college campuses and festivals all over LA. In 2001, they even got the opportunity to open for Island Recording artists Hoobastank at the Roxy.
When That Fat Frog broke up in the summer of 2002, Erin asked her good friend William Huyett to join her new band.
What William has to say: "Playing with Erin has definitely been the highlight of my musical career! I have never played with anyone who can captivate, inspire, awe, and move everyone who is fortunate enough to be present at one of our shows. There is just something so genuine about what she does onstage, and how she can play to any crowd and the fans just get it. She has been an inspiration to me as an artist and a friend for years, and I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to be in a band with her!"
Together for only a few months now, Erin and William have performed all over northern and Southern California, recorded their 10-song cd "The Good Stuff" independently and have started to attract a very loyal fan base. "Will and I have a very beautiful connection because we are both in love with the music and performing it. People see us live and are so moved because they can see just how special it is."
In 1994 Erin enrolled as a Jazz Performance major at SUNY New Paltz, a small state college in upstate New York. "New Paltz was where I finally started getting exposed to all kinds of music I had never heard before, like Bill Evans, Tal Farlow, Nina Simone, Charlie Hunter and so many more. OH MY GOD, my life was changed! I also got to play with so many other musicians, the experience was just incredible!"
After 3 short semesters of college, Erin packed her bags and headed for Los Angeles to break into a new scene. "I wanted a change of pace and to see what things were like elsewhere. I lived in NY my whole life, I needed something new."
