Artist History
“I could survive life without a relationship, but I couldn’t survive without music”, says Lead Vocalist / Songwriter, Candice Creelman. This feeling is carried through into her passionate vocal style, and her powerful and inviting songwriting. She has the ability to bring the audience into her world and connect with them, and make them feel right at home, with her universal lyrics and creative melodies.
Candice – who was born in Newfoundland and grew up in Edmonton – began honing her musical abilities at age 7 when she began playing piano, and at age 12 with guitar. Soon after that, she started writing both songs, and poetry. Starting at age 15 she played in several local Edmonton bands, the first few of which where she played bass guitar. Candice also has 10 years of classical vocal training which adds a powerful, haunting quality that is rare in the pop music world.
Candice joined forces with guitarist, Stephen Gale in July 2002, not long after they met at a small Toronto music store where Candice was working part time. Gale, was born in raised in Toronto and began playing guitar 26 years ago, and has been playing “just for the love of it” ever since. In his early years, he had no real aspiration for a career in music, but has since decided to make it his full time career. Steve went through a very dark period in his life, and music was the thing that got him through. Stephen’s innovative and clever chord structures add an unexpected turn within the melody lines. Though he is formally untrained, he adds a quality to the songs that is both unique, intimate and refreshing.
Together they create a sound that has been described as inspiring, upbeat, and inviting with catchy melodies and lyrics that easily get “stuck in your head”. Since forming as Blue Element, they have been rehearsing and writing. They have recently began doing gigs and open stages around Toronto, which have been well received by audiences and bar managers alike, where their original material has been far better received than their covers. As a result, further professional pursuit of this material is now their highest priority.
They have now recruited, producer, John Magyar to their compliment. The three of them have hit it off so well, that Blue Element has decided that John will continue to “be a part of the band”, hopefully for many successful years to come.
Future plans include doing a professional demo, continuing to perform, expanding the duo to a full band, as well as later on to do a full album. From there…the sky is the limit.
