Artist History
How do you describe a band that defines itself in the first few seconds of a live performance or off an audio track? As the latest edition to Montreal's local scene, Six Ate Nine (previously named Undercover Ways) has taken every opportunity to increase the band's exposure.
Not only are they second place winners of this 2002's national Emergenza contest, but the band's singer (Frank) was also given the Best Singer award for the entire event! Officials from Emergenza and representatives of Steve's music (major sponsor for the contest) described Six Ate Nine as one of the most promising bands in Montreal. So much so that the band was invited by the Emergenza officials in Europe to perform two outdoor festivals in France and one in Germany in October 2002.
The band is currently working on an 8 song demo as a pre-production for a full length album which will be completed in January of 2003.
Six Ate Nine was also featured in a motion picture and soundtrack for Samhain, a production shot in Montreal in spring 2002(www.samhain.ca). They won the spot by submitting a song written for the movie which was later decided as the main theme. The track shares the same title as the movie and should be released by March 2003. A music video was shot for Samhain last May.
Six Ate Nine are four musicians who together share the same ambitions and strive very hard to reach their goals. The band's personal and musical chemistry reflects well their creative strength. Formed in 1998, the band has hit Montreal's local scene performing at venues such as: Club Soda, Le Medley, Tokyo Bar, L'Alizé, Le Café D'en Face, Le Bleu est Noir, Café Campus and others. They were also featured, two years in a row (under the name Undercover Ways) in the summer festival Week-End Adoscene. Other artists to feature in this festival included Jean Leloup, Dubmatique, La Chicane, B.A.R.F., La Caravane Hip-Hop, Redcore and Jarah Jane. Six Ate Nine have also competed in major contests like "L'esprit" (CHOM fm) and "The MIX 96 songwriting competition" and were the winners of 1999's Battle of the Bands contest organised in St-Jerome. |
