"...small, mobile, intelligent unit" ala Robert Fripp.

Artist History
The band grew out of Doug Chamberlin's
frustration with the progress that his "New Wave"
band, "Distracted" was making in the clubs. He
wanted something like "Kraftwerk"; all keyboards
and electronics. He took the criticism of the day
that bands like this were cold and impersonal
as a personal challenge. Doug and band mates
Ron Rutherford & Tim Prettyman were intent on
making warm, romantic music with what amounted
to musical toys. They used two Casio keyboards,
the MT-30 and the VL-Tone as the lead and chordal
instruments, played through numerous pedal
effects for guitars; ie flange, chorus, delay.
Bass was provided by a Sequential Circuits
keyboard, the only instrument that qualified as
a true synthesizer.
All of this gear fit into a large suitcase and this
became a novel selling point for the group. Quick
set-up, direct to the P.A.; quick sound checks.
Scarlet Architect's one release, "Scarlet Architect
EP" contained their one hit, "Rose Grey", a song
that quickly rose to the Rock Pool Dance Charts'
Top Ten and stayed their for ten weeks.
The band brought danceable catchy pop to
the cubs for a little more than a year. Then manage-
maent problems caused the band to break up. |

Group Members
Scarlet Architect was:
Doug Chamberlin, singer songwriter ,I went on to
Ministry, Arcanta, McDonald/Chamberlin and now
Schedule II.
Ron Rutherford: The most accomplished musician
I have ever had the privelege of working with. Ron
hadled a number of amazing bands in
Southeastern Michigan in the 70s, packing
clubs in Ann Arbor and East Lansing. "Cinema"
was one of those bands.
Tim Prettyman: The best bass player I have ever
worked with. Tim had a Chris Squire attitude
toward bass work. He provided the full bottom
rythmic sound as well as creating a great part of
the melodic picture of any song.
