The wait is finally over! This month marks the release of the much anticipated, A Different Blue, on Tripledrum1 Records. This is the follow-up CD to their self-titled debut, Holler. Having taken a brief hiatus to write and record the second CD, the band hopes to evoke the same raw emotion that has come to characterize many of their live shows. Included as an added bonus is a cover of the Beatles classic "From Me To You," and two newly re-mastered fan favorites to add to the collection of new songs. Recorded during the summer of 02', A Different Blue is a more comprehensive album than any previous offering by the band. "We couldn't have written these songs early on in the band because we had to grow as musicians and songwriters," notes Franco Gordillo. Certainly the most personal work to date, A Different Blue, stems from a long history of playing the club circuit in various outfits. Born out of several local favorite New York City bands, drummer, Steve Fruda, guitarist, Franco Gordillo and bassist, Jamil Odeh, for years worked together as a unit. "In hindsight, it was the perfect opportunity for Jamil, Franco and myself to build a solid foundation. The chemistry was there from day one," says Fruda. When searching for a singer to add to their new project, help arrived in the form of Philadelphia native, Jennifer Nygard. Having come off of a US/European tour of the musical "Hair," the timing couldn't have been more perfect for their meeting. Making the transition from the theatre to the club circuit was an "intimidating, but anticipated move," recalls Nygard, but adds, "the outlet I've found writing for this band has allowed me to grow more than my entire career in theatre." Collaborating with Gordillo, the two began a working relationship that immediately yielded dozens of songs, many of which have become live Holler staples. Adding to the mix of tunes, Fruda's fiery drumming and Odeh's melodic impetus on bass, the unit quickly began defining a sound that many have described as uniquely their own. On their debut CD, Holler, released in 2002, the band showcased a variety of musical influences. Ranging from Latin fueled rhythms to instrumental banjo ditties; their debut upon release garnered much attention on the national charts. In its first week, Holler became the 11th most added in CMJ's Radio 200 adds (1/8/02), and continued to climb the charts for weeks following. Upon hearing, many were quick to note the album's eclectic nature. Its crafty songs and emotionally packed performances certainly made Holler an act not worth missing. Nygard's passionate vocals brought each song to a new level, garnering much deserved praise. On Garageband.com, their song "Voices" held the #1 spot for "Best Female Vocals," for weeks on end. With A Different Blue, the band hopes to offer the listener much of the same spirit from the previous album while going for as Odeh describes as, "a more 'stripped' down sound and less is more approach. We wound up spending more time in the production of the overall album and its songwriting than anything done by the band before." The album again draws from an array of musical styles, mixing Afro-Cuban rhythms and blues with emotionally driven vocals. The album's moody feel is one that certainly can be appreciated over and over again. The band hopes that you will. Order you copy of A Different Blue hereā€¦
