Press Reviews
This CD is a power-garage-country-rock-pop-treat, and Russell Chudnofsky is clearly a guitar playing, songwriting talent. Frazzle The Giant's first CD has a great rock 'n' roll sound with a post-punk sensibility, a nice dose of countrified twang, and a ragged, sincere garage rock sound...songs work their way into your head as you bob irresistibly to the steady beat...the songwriting throughout is terrific: unhurried structures, great melodies, and feet-on-the-ground heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics. Chudnofsky and co-producer Mark Alan Miller deserve kudos for getting the mix of twangy picking, power chords, and tuneful hooks just right by my ears. Of course they have some great material to work with. Chudnofsky can pick and strum with the best of them, combining tasty little rhythm licks with instantly catchy solos and exceptionally good slide work(Anyone can slap a bottleneck onto their strings, but I'd like to take lessons from this guy.) Best of all the playing manages to have something to say musically while staying in complete service of the song. Matt Magee, The Noise, March 1998 |
