    Artist History
The history of My Favorite Illness is short and boring, so we're going to add as many details as possible. Sorry. Matt Kotarba wanted to learn how to play the guitar, because Matt really liked how Jimi Hendrix could make weird noises. In the 4th Grade, he got a guitar. Matt tried to learn guitar, but he didnt have a clue. Matt improvised by making noise by sliding screwdrivers, altoid cans, and bottles, up and down the guitar. Later that year, he started learning chords, and actually wrote some songs. That same year, Matt met Jordan Jedlica, a drummer. They started jamming . Jordan and Matt rehearsed the songs they wrote themselves on throughout the sixth grade. They didn't need anyone else, they were a pretty good grunge/punk band. Jordan is awesome at drums, and Matt did the singing and guitar. Matt later got a Bass guitar and played it more often. In seventh grade, they got bored and thought they should start a "real" band. Matt and Jordan asked some friends if they wanted to start a band. Kyle Ferris was the first member added. He played Synth, and at first, Matt and Jordan didn't think the Synth would work out. They gave it a shot, and it worked out. Unlike most Synth players, Kyle was very angry and would pound the crap out of the keyboard. He made distorted noises that worked well with the melodies. C.J. Prestia joined in on guitar, but he didn't really show up to rehearsals, so Matt took over on guitar. The band was completed...except for a singer. They added this guy...we are not going to say his name, but he ruined the band, thats for sure! Things went really well when Matt, Jordan, and Kyle played. It was a strange sound, possibly sounded like The Doors, but punked up, and very loud, distorted, and angry. There was no mellow stuff, and Kyle played Synth !!! This singer guy would jump around and yell...it was very stupid... Yelling is ok, but no one could understand a word he was saying!!! He thought he was Fred Durst!!! We're all suprised we didn't beat him up! After a month of rehearsals, the band broke up. We were called "Extacy." ...it was the singers idea !!! Matt, Jordan, and Kyle had rehearsals every once and a while. Matt met guitarist Ian MacLellan at school in the 8th grade. It was really weird that Matt and Ian liked the same bands...like: NOFX, Fugazi, Minor Threat, Sonic Youth...! So the 4 guys had a rehearsal, and Ian fixed everything! Hes a guitar genius! Matt played bass and started singing. Matt always wrote lyrics, but that guy in "Extasy" said they weren't good, but Ian thought they were awesome, so Matt was singing again. Quickly Kyle was kicked out because the sound was way to hardcore, and we couldn't have a synth player anymore. It just didn't work out. The band continued on as Matt, Ian, and Jordan. We called ourselves "Rampage." After about 3 months, we broke up, because Jordan couldn't rehearse anymore, and we only played at Matts house. MY FAVORITE ILLNESS Immediately following Rampage, Matt and Ian started to assemble a new band. 'It was the last week of 8th grade, and Matts friend Jared Reeves asked Matt if he wanted to start a new band. Matt wanted to hear Jared drum first, so they had a few rehearsals. Jared was just starting out, but he picked up songs really quickly. Jared was put aside for a few weeks, while Ian and Matt invited Ryan Slegal over to jam. Ryan had a broken arm, and could only play one chord. Matt insisted to let him in the band. Matt spent the rest of the summer in Ohio, doing farm work. When Matt came back, Ryan's arm was ok, and Jared was much better at drumming. The four started to have rehearsals. From August first to the last day of summer, the band had a rehearsal everyday. We played some shows that fall. The shows really sucked, but we were on to something. We had to kick Ryan out because he didn't fit into the songs good enough. Ryan formed the band "Conspiracy." They were awesome, but they broke up. Actually, Conspiracy was able to play a few shows, and get played on college radio. When Conspiracy broke up, Ryan was back in with My Favorite Illness This time it clicked, and it's been that way ever since. -History written by : Matt Kotarba
