Artist description
Brian Eckstein (ECK-Stine) Bio:
born in Anderson, Indiaana in 1971, Brian is a
survivor of many health problems. As a newborn,
complications from bilateral cateracts caused a
permanent visual impairment. Brian also had kidney
disease as a child, and at age 12, he received a kidney
transplant from his father. While in good health now, doctors
predict he will need another kidney transplant within his lifetime.
Despite these obstacles, Brian graduated from Yorktown High School
in 1990 and received his bachelor's degree from Ball State University
in 1995.
Brian's interest and talent in music began in kindergarten, when he
began playing the organ at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in
Muncie. He was part of school band programs in 5th grade through college,
playing the euphonium. He also played sideline "pit" percussion for
marching band in high school and college, where he wrote and arranged his
own parts.
Brian has relased two CDs of music for local charities: HOPE LIVES: SONGS
OF INSPIRATION BY BRIAN ECKSTEIN AND FRIENDS in 2000, and HOLY IS YOUR NAME-
SOLO PIANO AND INSPIRATIONAL SONGS in 2002. Also in 2002, Brian's original
composition, "Community Fanfare," was performed by the Muncie Symphony Orchestra
and White River Youth Choir.
Brian's other compositions include the score for the public television documentary
GENE STRATTON PORTER - VOICE OF THE LIMBERLOST, music for the national children's
video series ANIMAL CRACKUPS, produced by Barbour-Langley Productions in Santa Monica
CA, as well as numerous local radio and television themes, children's self-esteem songs,
and church music. Brian's primary instrument is now the piano. Because of his visual
impairment, he mostly plays by ear.
In addition to being a church musician and freelance composer, Brian is Production Manager
at Indiana Public Radio in Muncie, IN. |
