    Artist History
MITCHELL Chris Mitchell, better known as “Mitchell” has been involved in the music scene for 15 years. Mitchell formed his first band in 1988 by the name of Florescent Brown, which featured Original songs by Mitchell as well as a lot of songs featured on Skate Board video’s made at that time. The line- up was: Todd Pretty (Drums, formerly in “Prune”), Dave Lebein (Bass, formerly of “Prune”), Travis Moseng (Guitar) and Mitchell (Lead Guitar/ Vocals). In 1989 Mitchell met his mentor and best friend Robert Schausitz, who changed the way Mitchell would write and perform music forever. In 1990 Mitchell and Robert would go on to form the band “Brain Candy”. The line-up: Dave Klym (Bass, who now plays lead guitar in The Mike Plume Band), Kris Loader (Drums), Robert Schausitz (Lead Guitar) and Mitchell (Vocals). These four guys would make up the first band ever (during this time) to take their unique brand of “Northern Tundra Punk“ from Ft. Mc Murray, Alberta, to Edmonton’s well-known Venue “The Bronx”, (now known as The Rev.) as well as many other venues throughout Alberta and British Columbia. Brain Candy recorded one 10-song Lp as well as a 3-song demo, which were distributed across Alberta and British Columbia via Live Shows and Snowboarding/Skateboarding trips. The band had a great following right from the get-go, right up to the day they decided to pursue different things individually which was in early 1993. Later that same year Mitchell went on to form a band by the name of “Piston Broke” with Avery Hanson (Drums, formerly of “The Lambs”), Dave McCauley (Guitar, formerly of “The Godless”), Scott Sheils (Bass) and Mitchell (Vocals). Piston Broke got off to an early start due to the popularity of Mitchell’s other project “Brain Candy” and was an instant success amongst the youth with shows such as: Hemp Fest., Rod Fest., as well as many club venues. A 6-song demo was record in 94, which featured the song “Picture” and was instantly placed amongst the best of under ground alternative music scene. In 1996 Mitchell formed “Better Things To Do” with Jason Chinn (formerly of Renslip, drums) Blake the “Bass Player” Jimmy Boy (Lead Guitar) and Mitchell (Vocals). Again due to the popularity of Mitchell’s other projects “Better Things To Do” enjoyed instant successes such as a 1 hour Live Performance on Ft.McMurray’s local radio station KYX-98 fm on Halloween Night and appearances on local Cannel 10 Television as well. A 2-song demo was recorded which received airplay on Kyx-98 and received a lot of request’s. 1997 came along and with it yet another project was formed by the name of “Full-Out”. This band featured some members of Mitchell’s previous projects: Avery Hanson (drums), Robert Schausitz(Bass) and Mitchell, for the first time since “Florescent Brown” playing Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals. “Full-Out” was based out of Calgary, unlike any of Mitchell’s previous bands, which were all based out of Ft. McMurray, Alberta. This was an opportunity to shine and they did just that. Calgary offered more and bigger venues to perform with signed and unsigned bands. Shows at such venues as: The Republic, The Night Gallery, The Works, The Back Alley, The Ship & Anchor, etc. In 1998 “Full-Out” went into Tac-Time Sounds Recording Studio in Calgary to record what would be one of the Fastest, Technical, Punk, 4-song, demo cd’s out there to date. (if you get your hands on this one, it’s a gem) The fast, crunchy riffs along with the melodic vocals that Mitchell is known for truly make this cd a pleasure to listen to. Mitchell wrote and produced this cd exclusively. (he also had a hand in producing the before named recordings). In the year 2000 Mitchell had had enough of band life… or so he had thought, so he packed up his things and headed out East to a place called Cape Pele’ (cape bald), New Brunswick. There he met Marc Leblanc (Drums) and Ray Legere (Bass), together they formed “Tickletrunk”. Both Ray and Marc, totally unfamiliar with Punk music or any of it’s close relatives, (their favorite bands were Pearl Jam and Creed) were introduced to Mitchell’s unique brand of Hard-hitting, Riff Rageous, Lyrically Mastered Metal. Tickletrunk went on to record a 12-song cd, which was later entitled “Mitchell”. (Due to the fact that Mitchell wrote, arranged, produced and performed all of the 12 songs) This cd was the centerpiece of Mitchell’s portfolio, when Mitchell applied for College at “The College of the North Atlantic” in Stephenville, Newfoundland, his course of study, “The Music Industry & Performance”. Out of hundreds of students and with only 14 seats available, Mitchell was chosen to be amongst those 14 people. The Music Industry & Performance” course is a 2-year program that incorporates many elements in the music industry today such as: Business Law, Entrepreneurial Studies, Recording 1 & 2, Audio Broadcast, Music History & Theory, Computer Music Applications, etc. During Mitchell’s 2-years at The College of the North Atlantic he continued to promote his self-titled Cd by starting yet another project called “Plummett”. This line-up consisted of fellow college students Dave Vokey (Drums, formerly of Bud, The Stoning Jones), Denver Gidge (Guitar), Karl Langer (Bass, formerly of Bud, Snatch) and Mitchell (Lead Guitar/ Vocals). After performing many times for the college Mitchell decided it was time to take the show on the road so during the summer of 2001, with 1 year left of college the four moved to St. John’s, Newfoundland to pursue “Plummett”. The summer held many things for the four such as interviews for radio, shows for such contests as www.sieved.com band wars, in which “Plummett” placed 2nd. “Plummett” also played shows at many of the local venues such as: The Ship Inn, Calio’s and Sky Bar, etc. The biggest show of the summer was an out-door event called “Peace A-chord”, which is a 3 daylong festival focusing on political in-justices. This turned out to be a great show, although Denver was away Brandon Mitchell (Mitchell’s brother) filled in. After finishing college in 2002, Mitchell decided to make yet another move clear across the country to beautiful British Columbia, Victoria to be exact. There Mitchell joined the band of long time friend Kris Degaust, of “Good Nite Irene”. In 9 months Mitchell played a total of 32 shows with “Good Nite Irene” with the first being “The M-Power Awards Show”(an independent music awards show for Victoria) and also became “The First Feature Band Of The Month” for The Zone 91.3 fm. Along with that came a Showcase Performance through The Zone and another show as an opening act for the Californian band “Sense Field” which at that time had a hit song on the radio called “ Saving Yourself”. During this time “Good Nite Irene” was receiving a lot of airplay from both The Zone 91.3 in Victoria but also X-FM in Vancouver. There they wowed the crowd with their unique style of Radio Friendly Rock and left them wanting more. In October of this year (10,02) Mitchell decided to branch out from the musical stylings of “Good Nite Irene” to once again pursue his own blend of Hard-hitting, Riff Rageous, Lyrically Mastered Metal. Mitchell fuses all that is good in Rock, Blues, Punk, Jazz, Metal and even Pop music to bring to you a style that is as unique as the person who created it. With influences such as: Black Sabbath, Finger Eleven, CCR, The Cream, The Door’s, NOFX, Sex Pistols, Minor Threat, Lard, DK and many, many more it’s not hard to tell that Mitchell gets his inspiration from any source imaginable. The 2 songs on this demo cd were recorded on a digital 4-track recorder and were Recorded, Written, Produced and Performed solely by Mitchell and are just a taste of what is to come as Mitchell works on new material for the up-coming full-length Cd. Mitchell currently has 2 web pages up, one with old material from his first self-titled cd and one with a sample of the new music to come at: Old( www.iuma.com and search for Chris J Mitchell New ( www.audiosurge.com/branded On Audiosurge Mitchell is rated #8 for the most downloads and #27 for the most visited page out of 5898 artists that are signed up on this site. If you feel like going to check this web page out, please feel free to leave a message on the message board and the message will go directly to Mitchell’s e-mail address. Written By: Sheldon Brahmis
