Artist History
Jeff Chaffa -- Guitar/Lead Vocals************************Jeff Chaffa's vocals are at once raw and soulful, and are identifiable as a unique sound. He is also an exceptional blues/rock guitarist, who developed his style by combining a self-taught approach with the more polished elements of blues/rock greats. He has appeared in many venues in the NYC area as well as in various clubs throughout the U.S. Jeff's vocal and guitar ability was honed through several early rock cover band experiences and his solo original acoustic-turned-rock trio, which began in NYC. He writes and arranges for the band.
*****************Ahmed Kharem -- Percussion/Bck. Vocals*******************
During the past decade, Ahmed Kharem has performed with notable jazz artists, such as Barry Harris, as well as numerous NYC underground groups, such as Glim. He also appeared with Jeff Buckley and Stereolab, and has performed on NYC and regional college radio. Coming mainly from a jazz background, Ahmed plays with the concept and feel of a jazz musician and the raw emotion and power of a rock drummer. His melodic approach is a crucial component to the band’s core sound. As a multi-instrumentalist (drums, keys, guitar, vocals), Ahmed also writes and arranges for the band.
**************Mike Davis -- Bass*****************
Mike plays bass with us, though we've heard that he kills on accordian as well. He's a jazz cat, with a degree in jazz performance and composition from the University of North Texas in Denton, but he actually likes to play pop. Mike has performed with the cabaret group Little Jack Melody & His Young Turks, Airto Moreira, Pancho Sanchez, Doc Cheetham, and his own avant-garde jazz ensembles "anonymous" and "sand." Of course, when he plays rock, he knows how to rock. . . and swing . . . |

Press Reviews
"With careful attention to song craft and
heartfelt musicianship, No Artificial Colors
adeptly builds to feverish, bluesy climaxes.
Drummer Kharem and bassist Farmer
weave a lush tapestry, while Chaffa's
driving guitar riffs and yearning vocals twist
the center of this emotional hurricane.
No Artificial Colors restores my faith in
contemporary rock." ~ Ed Morales, New York Newsday |
