Artist History
Late summer 1999 a young 17 year old Aleesha Rome packed her bags, left her family home, her boyfriend, and all of her school friends back in Adelaide, South Australia and hopped a bus to Sydney in search of work and adventure. Within 2 weeks of arriving she had a job as a receptionist in an architects office, rented a flat, bought an old car and was singing in karaoke competitions and cover bands. Through an advert in a local music paper she phoned Alberts A&R boss Barry Andrews to see if he'd like to hear her sing! Quick to see her determination and ability to "charm the birds from the trees" the usually reticent A&R boss agreed to a meeting and possible audition at the Sydney studio later that same evening .
The job was to replace one of the singers from an all girl rock band that had just released their 1st single in Australia.
She brought her karaoke backing tracks with her and sang No Doubt's "I'm Just A Girl", within 5 minutes of hearing Aleesha's unique and distinctive voice she was offered a solo deal with the company's AMC record label through EMI.
The 1st single "ONE OF US HAS CHANGED" was included on US TV show "PARTY OF FIVE" and Aleesha spent the next 6 months travelling Australia promoting the single to a normally sceptical media audience of TV , Radio and print executives where she stood in their offices and sang 3 songs to them acapella....not bad for a 17 year old! The single went on to become an Australian hit and was one of the most played records of the year.
Countless appearanceas at shopping malls, schools, dance clubs, TV and radio along with the 2 videos ensured the success of Aleesha's 2nd single "SEARCH MY HEAVEN"
2 hit singles, 2 videos, an album and close to 700,000 sales later she now live in London and is about to embark on recording her eagerly awaited 2nd album.
