Artist description
The Future Husbands were formed in spring 2001 in northern New England by Mike Bellefeuille and Neal Munn as a joke with no real direction. Since then they have seen Neal move from guitarist to drummer and back to guitarist as well as vocalist and Mike move almost as much. They have also seen the coming and going of at least one member, one-time guitarist Matt Jeffery, as well as bassist Jon Gulley's move to Pittsburgh. Since then the band has added drummer Eric Carvill and extended stand-in bassist Jeremy "Jay Trayne" Strain. Perhaps the only thing more drastic than the band's seemingly uncertain line-up has been their evolution as musicians. From two guys who couldn't really play any music, the FH has moved from an acoustic emo sound to a classic rock sound and finally have now progressed as a viably entertaining avant garde rock and jam band. As the members of the FH (subject to name change) like to say, they are really members of "the thinking man's garage band." |

Artist History
Formed in spring of 2001 by Mike Bellefeuille and Neal Munn, The Future Husbands recruited friend, Jon Gulley, to be the band's bassist while Mike sang and Neal was the guitarist. Shortly thereafter, the band recruited another friend, Matt Jeffery, to play guitar and Neal became the band's drummer. The band performed in a multi-act show that summer while Mike and Neal collaborated on songwriting. Jon was forced to move to Pittsburgh that fall, however, twelve hours away from the band, but Mike and Neal continued to write songs. Neal completed the band's first demo tape with three tracks in December, and two more would follow in the coming months. Mike, Neal, and Jon got together for the summer of 2002 again with a large archive of songs and played a few performances over the summer. Unfortunately, Jon had to return to Pennsylvania in September, but Mike and Neal released the band's first demo EP, "Rock n' Roll Heartbreak Experiment," about the same time the band was featured in a local entertainment publication. The EP included only vocals and guitar (electric and acoustic). The EP was promoted as a demo only, and Matt, whom the band had seen little of over the past year, was officially dropped from the line-up. Neal continued to play guitar, as he had been for the band since fall of 2001. The band soon recruited another friend, Eric Carvill, to fill the drumming position, vacant for over a year. Jon was able to come up over Thanksgiving break of 2002 and the band performed a set at The Sad Cafe in Plaistow, NH, the band's first performance with all four members since August 2001. Even in the few months following this milestone, the band (although they have since unfortunately been unable to get together with Jon) has grown in all new directions and evolved musically in a way which they had never anticipated. The coming of 2003 had the band working on two new songs, one a folksy acoustic number with Dylan-esque vocals and another reminiscent of Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." This path was soon changed however as the band recruited friend, Jeremy "Jay Trayne' Strain to be an extended stand-in bassist and keyboardist. The band worked on a number of jam songs and especially a large number of VU-influenced avant garde rock songs, with many more still in the planning stages. A brief set of shows at the Well in Portland, Maine in March allowed the band to test their new material on an audience. Although the band jokingly calls the mateiral "inaccessible," they received a warm reception if only for the humorous nature of the unfamiliar tunes. The band asserts that one of their major strong points is their uniqueness among not only other garage bands, but in the popular music scene as well. As the members plan to head off to college next year, they look forward to another summer full of jamming and rocking and a possible name change come fall. |
