Artist description
This Indiana born and raised singer/songwriter has been performing since she was very young. She started singing in church choirs at the age of 5 and had made her Carnegie Hall debut when she was 12, while performing with her local community children's choir. With a mother who played piano, organ, guitar, flute, and sang. And a father who could only play the radio, we know where her natural talent came from.
A classically trained vocalist, she has won many vocal competitions all over Indiana. She recently decided to stray a bit from her classical training and get back to her folk roots.
Growing up with such a musical mother, and an older brother who is an award-winning percussionist, she had plenty of musical influences. She started playing piano when she was 6. She then took up flute when she was 12. A few years later she decided to take up the guitar. She is currently studying with the amazing Kara Barnard.
Aside from her family influences, she also credits the great range of music she heard played in the house while she was growing up. Some of her influences include: Joni Mitchell, Chet Atkins, Paul Simon, Merle Travis, Bill Monroe, and Patsy Cline among others.
She has come a long way since the years of banging on the piano when she was 6. Laura can now be seen performing in local coffeehouses all over the Indiana area and coming this summer to Kentucky and Tennessee.
