Artist History
Though classically trained at an early age, it was the pop and rock of Krysten's teen years and her older brother, a pianist/keyboardist in his own right, that shaped her musical sensibilities. She began composing on guitar and later on piano, giving her the opportunity to display her wide range of vocal and musical skills. After leaving college she made the bold move from her native Europe to New York where she honed her craft and paid her dues as a session singer. "It was a great experience for me, working with producers, learning how records were made" notes Krysten, "but at that point I didn't want to be tied down to being a session singer. My desire was to write and record my own music." So Krysten traveled between the Big Apple and London, fueling her creative fires in the process. Indeed while in London Krysten regularly performed at clubs while recording with top line musicians and producers such as grammy winner Mike Howlett, Seal bassist Phil Spalding and Pink Floyd percussionist Gary Wallis. Despite eliciting interest from the music industry in the UK, Krysten moved back to New York, determined to capitalize on the buzz generated in London and began working on her US debut album "New Moon". Putting together her own band she performed at local clubs such as CB's Gallery, Downtime and Mercury Lounge at night, by day, she started recording with producer Jeff Bova. The success of the new material encouraged Krysten to go it alone, writing and producing the rest of the album herself. A disparate clutch of influences have converged impressively to resulting in an album that flirts with pop sensibilies while maintaining an alternative musical and lyrical depth. The whole project is bound intrinsically tight by Krysten's singularly unique sense of melody and penmanship. |
