    Artist description
David Heilman is a singer songwriter from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania . "Onus A" is his first CD. In the classic tradition of his heroes, Bob Dylan, John Prine and Robyn Hitchcock, Heilman weaves his spell like a master storyteller. Like a bard of old, he draws the listener in with innuendo and double meaning, mixing metaphor like a literary chemist run amuck. The overarching theme of "Onus A" is that of loss, and this brilliant debut album accurately depicts the fine line between love and loathing. David's haunting lyrics tell the tale of unrequited love, and swing the pendulum from the cry and wail of "So Long", to the raw anger of "A". Anyone who has felt the bite of scorned love will identify with the loss and longing expressed in this album. In "The Jewels Of St. Aries" the artist seems to give a nod to his Protestant upbringing with illusions to a child-savior come to rescue mankind from the tedium of life, our ultimate peace found not on earth. This restlessness and searching can be felt throughout the collection as Heilman attempts to put meaning to his experience of an imperfect world. There are many universal truths decanted throughout the album, which is punctuated with pithy yet philosophical axioms. Musically, "Onus A" is diverse in style, and tight in its execution. Heilman shows an uncanny ability to move between musical styles, equally at home with the blues of "Mookie and the Minnie Man", as with the Dixie swing of "Defecting from the Union". "Onus A" is a must for your next melancholy road trip. -JULIA TILLEY, poet and author of "Anticipating You."---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "An impassioned, intriguing songwriter, Dave Heilman has penned a collection of colorful lyrics on 'Onus A', thematically and stylistically diverse, yet singularly Dave." -JOHN CUSATIS, singer/songwriter & the original "Barroom Rock & Roller" "Onus A" CD Release party: March 15th, 2003, 9:00PM, at Deja Vu Eatery & Lounge, Hershey, PA. Music Style
Musically diverse. Lyrically, I try to write intelligent and enigmatic songs, that dangle on the edge of what is real, and what is not. I don't write nonsense, every word means something, and hopefully, I'm able to confuse the listener. As Bob said,
