Artist description N A R K is Naresh Vempala & RK Pai. Naresh Vempala : Guitar/Vocals As an engineering student at REC Warangal (Andhra Pradesh, India) Naresh started playing music at college festivals alternating between vocals, keyboard, and guitar. His parents especially his mother, a diploma holder in Carnatic Classical Music exposed him to music and he learnt the Veena for about an year . A growing interest in Western Popular music soon lead to the guitar. After coming to the US for graduate studies, he started to build on it doing solo acoustic performances at bars in Mississippi while taking guitar lessons. He jammed with a classic rock band and a Punk-ska band for a few months and started to develop an interest in the blues, hard rock, funk and metal. RK Pai : Drums/Percussion As a student at SJCE Mysore(Karnataka, India) started to play drums and hand percussion with the college rock band and also with Indian film music oriented groups at local events. Growing up in a family of music lovers he developed a taste for Indian Classical and Popular music and dabbled with the Tabla for an year. His father himself a fan of popular Western bands such as the Beatles, exposed him to Western popular music, rock and classic big band jazz/swing and he started to learn the drums. He played in local rock bands in Mysore and then in Bombay. A job in the IT industry brought him to the US and the local music scene in NYC's Greenwich Village lead to a fascination for contemporary jazz, funk, reggae and Latin music.

Artist History N A R K(NAresh RK) is a 2-piece band based in the US in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina. Introduced by mutual friends, Naresh & RK formed NARK in 1999 as a casual jam band with Naresh on Guitar/Vocals and RK on Drums/Vocals and percussion. The band started playing open mics doing jams and cover music in the Raleigh area. An original tune the band calls Raag Rock - a foot tapping, trancelike driving instrumental medley of guitar and drums with distinct Indian and Classic Rock influences evolved from one of their jam sessions and soon the band started to write and arrange original material. Their original music gained popularity in the open mic circuit and the band is currently featured in local band showcases and bars in Raleigh. The band's live repertoire is an unusual mixture of their uniquely original Raag Rock style, Classic Rock, Funk & the Blues combined with spontaneuos jamming and high energy playing. NARK has been actively performing at local bars in North Carolina for over a year and is currently recording original material.
