Artist History
After the dissolution of the regionally popular Toy Train Hold-Up in 1993, Matthew Shadley Brauer formed Gravity Rails with high school friends Randall Schmipf (drums) and Kevin Wilhelm (bass). The band became a vehicle for Brauer's songwriting. In 1994, Brauer and Schimpf formed Urban Assault with Tom Joles (lead guitar) and Dave Joles (bass). The music was fueled by the virtuosity of Tom Joles' daring guitar work and Brauer's lyrics and vocals. After some studio work and some changes in personnel, the band became a force on the Cincinnati music scene. The band's final line-up consisted of Matthew Shadley Brauer on vocals and bass, Tom Joles on guitar, and David Rowell on drums. In 1996, the bandmates went their separate ways, leaving a brief legacy of free-form, power-trio live jams that have yet to be replicated. |
