Artist History
Grand Finale started one day in February of 2002. Jon kept asking Andrew if he wanted to start a band, so Andrew said, “Yea I’ll give it a shot.” Just a couple seconds later they asked their friend Mikey if he wanted to play second guitar and he wanted to. So the three amigos sought out to find Mike Donahue if he wanted to sing and he was like, “Sure…I guess.” So then there were four of us out looking for a bass player. We found Matt Herens who wanted to play so then Grand Finale was complete (sorta).
The band had planned on having their first practice at Andrew’s house on March 2, 2002. Just a day before the practice, Matt Herens decided he didn’t wanna play anymore and Mikey couldn’t come. Andrew remembered a kid, named Mike, in his gym class that has a Musician’s Friend catalog, so Andrew asked Mike (who Andrew didn’t know) if he wanted to play guitar because Andrew wasn’t sure whether Mikey was gonna be able to be in the band. Then Andrew found out that Mike played bass and not guitar, so Andrew asked him if he’d play bass and Mike said, “Yea!” On March 2, 2002 Grand Finale had their first practice. It was chaotic, Mikey didn’t, Jon came an hour late, broke 2 strings, and didn’t know the song “Shoulder to the Wheel” by Saves the Day. That was the first song we ever played. After about a two months of practice and our first show, the band decided that Mike Donahue just wasn’t the fit for Grand Finale. Then after a week we found Mike H. (a lifelong friend of Andrew) to lead sing with Mikey. But thats not all. After Mike H. Joined the band we managed to pull off a show at the BCHS Spring Fling. We performed a punk cover of Amazing Grace. We continued having practice every week making slow, almost no progress. Also, happening at the same time, a few members of GF, including Mike H., were getting into some trouble with some local kids and Mike H. ended up getting in a fight. From then on he wasn't able to be in Grand Finale. But were doin just fine. Mikey is now full time lead singer and Jonathan is still lead guitar. |
