ELECTRIC ENGINE- MUSIC BUILDING
Sprung from the ashes of the late, great Moths (who as one wag put it were one of the two bands who kept Arlene Grocery in business the first year), this band mines the more melodic, alt-countryish side of that sadly departed combo. Thankfully, Tim and Tom and Joe have soldiered on and have this wry, catchy collection of jangly, rootsy rock to show for it. Fans of Uncle Tupelo and early Wilco will go nuts over this ep, from the opening tune Got Drunk through the woozily mellow Say You Don't which closes the album. The acoustic tunes have the same unpretentious, warm, down-home rootsy vibe as Wilco's AM album, and the electric rockers have some of the sweetest guitar sonics recently committed to cd by any NYC band. I know a lot of musicians who will undoubtedly be asking what amps, guitars, settings, studio etc these guys used. Highly recommended for the roots rock/Lakeside Lounge contingent.
