Artist History
A song every 48 hours” or that’s how it appears sometimes. Folks who’ve seen Jane and Gord perform know there’s always a new song percolating. Having worked with song greats Bill Henderson, Roy Forbes and Stephen Fearing, Jane regularly challenges herself to write in as many different styles as she can. Folk, blues, gospel, country, even a little Texas swing…all seem to flow from Jane’s pen. Her long-time partner and husband, Gord, acts as a perfect foil for Jane’s voice and guitar playing, adding just the right amount of sparkle to the mix.
This fall, they released their first “official” CD titled The Blue Madonna. Produced by Jane and Gord at a local recording studio, The Blue Madonna is a collection of 10 original songs covering a wide range of styles. From the folk strains of the title track to the rollicking Edible Love Song, a little ditty that Jane wrote for Gordie on their wedding day, The Blue Madonna defies labeling in any one genre. “It’s my hope that people who listen to the CD, will find at least one song that they like and it won’t necessarily be the same song,” says Jane. “That way my music will perhaps appeal to a wide range of people.” Jane and Gord are planning to tour the local coffeehouses this winter and hope to perform at Folk Festivals next summer.
Jane was twice asked to attend the BC Festival of the Arts, has received a honorable mention in American Songwriter Magazine’s lyric contest and currently conducts a song-writing circle in her home. “Everything is an inspiration and stories abound”, says Jane. “Song writing is no different than storytelling. It’s an art form that weaves richness into our everyday lives.”
