Press Reviews CD Available in stores Oct 1st. TOWER ISLAND has been a Philadelphiabased band since 1994. Until their recent signing to OCI Records theywere known as ADI SHAKTI. For the last 5 years they have been playingthe Philly scene and have enjoyed great reviews from brutal critics.They also had a good run on the top 10 of the 94 WYSP Loud and LocalShow with the song "Mother Maker." After a year of deals gone bad with acouple of major labels (who's names we will not mention) ADI SHAKTI metup with Glen O'Hara of OCI Records, an Indie label based out of Phoenix,Arizona. After being exposed to Glen's "Good karma" way of doingbusiness, they decided that OCI Records is the way to go. So, for thenext year they dropped off the face of the earth and went into the studio. Part of the album was recorded in Philly, some in New Jersey, andthe rest at OCI Records in Phoenix. Then there was the name change, ADISHAKTI was just too hard to pronounce, and since they were goingnational they figured it would be a good idea to make it easy on people.So, they decided to take the name of their oldest and favorite song"TOWER ISLAND." Through the whole process of making the album OCIRecords gave full artist license to Angel (the lead singer andguitarist) which gave him the opportunity to produce, mix, and even dothe cover illustrations for the album. The release date of their firstsingle called "Nothing Else" is due September 7th 1999. Now, don't letthe name of the single fool you, cuz there's a lot more where that camefrom. TOWER ISLAND is also one of the first modern rock bands to bereleased in the DTS format. What's DTS? Well, you're in for a bigsurprise. DTS is the most mind blowing audio experience a human canhave. It makes Stereo, 3D, and Surround Sound, sound like two tin canstied together. You've heard DTS (Digital Theater Sounds) at the movieswith bullets whizzing by, but chances are you haven't heard music mixedwith the same 5 point system. Imagine the drum kit all around you. Thevocals are in front of you, but the harmony's are just over yourshoulders. The guitar is to your right, but the ambience of it is overyour left shoulder. The bass is to your left, but the chorus is overyour rite shoulder. No, you're left shoulder. Hey! Now everything ismoving! We advise you not to close your eyes, you might get dizzy. Andnow DVDs are DTS compatible. That means you can play a live audiovisualperformance mixed in DTS right in your own home.
