Artist description
Get ready for something fresh, original and interesting. Call it tropical, topical, but not so typical.
Coconut Joe debut CD Two Waters presents a unique blend of pop, rock, light jazz and blues, all sprinkled with a little shredded coconut and luscious vocal harmonies. Perhaps the bridging of mainland adult contemporary and island music. The group features the original songs of Hawaii born and raised singer/songwriter Bobby Rogers, veterans guitarist/vocalist Frank Kam, drummer/vocalist Macy Campbell as well as bassist/vocalist Barbara Ann Rogers.
The CD takes us on a eclectic musical and poetic journey through the eyes of a small town boy raised in the Islands.
Pick up this CD if you want to be treated to a breath of fresh air; a blend of contemporary music with Island themes. Recommended for both kamaainas (locals) and malahinis (visitors) alike. |

Artist History
First there was dirt and fire. Then there was Coconut Joe. It started with the duo of Bob and Barbara Ann Rogers (formally of Earthsong) in 1995. Then an ad was written and placed on the bulletin board at Coconut Grove Music Store in Kailua. "Ancient songwriter looking for golfing buddy who also plays excellent guitar and sings." Enter Frank Kam, guitar monster, originally with Hawaii's popular rock band, Schnazz!
We then needed some one to make a racket behind our guitars and vocals. Enter Macy Campbell who we found out plays coconuts, eats and drinks coconuts, and really just loves coconuts. We now had a drummer. We strapped a bass on Barbara Ann because it was fashionable and we were set for Hollywood. Actually we just went into the studio in 1998 and record our debut CD Two Waters. |

Press Reviews
Wayne Harada, Honolulu Advertiser, Entertainment Editor
Bob Rogers is the producer-composer of all the music - a collection of impressions of various facets of Island living ... Coconut Joe is a pop newcomer eager to connect with the island mainstream. And worth checking out. ****
John Berger, Honolulu Star Bulletin, Music Critic
Coconut Joe is actually a quartet. No one is named Joe, but multi-faceted Bob Rogers is the resident song writer. Rogers favors a cosmopolitan light rock sound… Cutesy allusions trace the experiences of |
