Press Reviews
-----Listen.com - There's a lot to like about Cinema Volta. Whereas most music tries to fill space, this artist seeks to empty it entirely. Once you've relaxed into the silence, he feeds it slowly with rich, breathtakingly simple tones. It's gorgeous, addictive stuff that morphs from a ring to a hum and back again, never pressing its luck or losing its tenuous balance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------New York Times - CyberTimes: John Maxwell Hobbs has created a virtual mixing studio that is less graphically elaborate than the "World Jam" area of the Experience Music Project site -- and considerably more fun. Despite its simple white-on-black all-text environment, "Web Phase" allows visitors to choose from 11 audio loops of different lengths and sonic character and combine up to four of them in complex ways that are sometimes satisfying, sometimes cacophonous. Even loading the same loop into all four tracks may produce interesting results. |
