Artist History Atwater is a Los Angeles-based rock band comprised of Kirk Ross and Cornelius Hickey. Formerly in a band together called Fastcow, the two split off and formed Atwater in the summer of 1999 and quickly set out to record a new CD. Frontman Kirk Ross – originally from Ashland, Oregon also plays drums, bass & keyboards on the record while long-time partner in crime Cornelius Hickey – originally from Holyoke, Massachusetts – plays all the guitars & harmonica and sings some backups. It was all recorded in Kirk’s home studio in Atwater Village over the past year. The rootsy yet polished sound of this record is so mind-flexingly beautiful that anyone who listens to it will instantly begin to weep unabashed and run gleefully into the forest to gather berries and other nourishing treats - all the while singing joyous melodies to the birds and other tiny creatures who dwell therein. Our only fear of releasing such a euphoria-causing record unto the world is that the unsuspecting listener might become entranced and unable to stop listening to the CD. The long-term effect of this is only too obvious: large populations of people clustered around boomboxes, droning, together lost in a catatonia of pleasure. These “boombox clusters” would eventually coalesce like droplets of mercury into one “supercluster” and from simply neglecting to feed itself, the entire human race would perish – the victim of an impartial music virus. Although such serious repercussions are pending, we throw caution to the wind and choose to release this record because we believe in our hearts only good can come of it.
