Someone Else's Problem http://www.listen.to/seproblem
My hands are sweating on this frigid Michigan winter day because I am nervous about writing a review that does this song justice.
I'll do my best to describe the sound: Imagine that you are in a house of worship. An organ, which sounds like it was built in some long forgotten time when craftsmen cared about what they made, echoes briefly through the building. A light comes on near the altar, and the singer, accompanied by his acoustic guitar, sings about the hypocrisy's in religion and in the people around him, which is not what you expected. The guy is making sense as he sings, "All of your life you've played by their rules, how could you know that they're written by fools?" Just when you are getting into this quiet part, an anthemic chorus shouts "Throw them in the holy pail, pack them in the holy pail". This sounds weird, but trust me, it works. The only bands that this sounds close to are Beatles or Badfinger. There is no hint of 90's grunge or alterna-whatever. It's just a damn good song.
