Press Reviews
strange childMP3 reviewsreviewed by sal march 1999strange child walk the commercial alternative rock path. with crimson sky they're not breaking new ground with their music and it tends to be somewhat predictable but on the whole, entirely listenable. a little bit of tightening up and a production fix would do this song wonders. they tend to be somewhat sloppy but that could be the intent, as it is with many heavier bands. remember jimmy page? the sloppiest guitarist in the world but the man could play like no other. strange child find a faster and (in my opinion) vastly better path with the much heavier illusions. a nicely crafted heavy alternative number with understated, but cool guitar riffs added in. however, the standout on this tune is the vocals. the heavier, aggressive style brings out strange child's talent and i hope this is the direction they're going to pursue. carrying on in the heavier style with seeds of pain, strange child are very reminiscent of stone temple pilots, alice in chains or silverchair - vocally and musically. along with illusions, i quite liked this song. there's nothing like a good song that kicks you in the ass. listed as one of their influences is king's x, a band that happens to be one of my all time faves. if strange child can hold themselves up to the incredibly tight talent that comprises the king's x trio, they'll be doing themselves a wonderful favour. with a little more originality and tightness, strange child will make a bigger mark on the alternative music scene.
