Artist History
BuddhaKowski was formed in the spring of 1998 by the songwriting team of Matt Langlois (vocal/guitar) and Andrew Stess (bass). They had been playing and writing in SF bands together since 1994. With the additions of Thomas Greene (drums) Mica Pollock (cello/backup vocals) and Philip Golden (guitar/backup vocals), they soon realized they were on to something special. The group soon recorded a 6-song e.p. with Boston Producer Adam Steinberg, and were dubbed the “perfect lineup of San Francisco power pop” by the SF Bay Guardian. The CD has won praise from several print and on-line publications, and marks the launch of a stellar band into the stratosphere of the collective unconscious. The band’s roots are firmly entrenched in everything that has made rock and roll exciting and dangerous since its inception, but with their unique perspective and instrumentation, they are leaving their distinct vapor trail as they blaze their trajectory. Now a fixture at Bay Area clubs like the Paradise Lounge and Bottom of the Hill, and down the Interstate 5 in Los Angeles at the Viper Room and the Dragonfly, the nattily- dressed quintet comes across as lounge cats in a punk rock band. They devour the stage as they give their sets everything they’ve got, from the quiet beauty of “Blackout” to the animal aggression of “Adrenaline.” They have also made two dynamic and humorous live performances on Bay TV’s morning show. BuddhaKowski, the Bay Guardian noted, "means business.” They're certainly not sitting on their butts waiting for enlightenment or drinking beer in front of a typewriter . . . |

Press Reviews
See http://www.buddhakokwski.com2 song demo featuring "Great Tales" and "Great Town". Check out both songs for their incredible melody and large pop hooks. Lead singer Matt Langlois has a truly sultry and powerful vocal delivery on "Great Tales"-this guy has got it folks. Couple him w/a dynamic band that features former members of Letters to Cleo, Deeper, The Flu, and you have a rocking/pleasurable mix that needs to be played on KROQ.We mentioned comparisons above, but Buddhakowski has an original feel and sound all it's own-thanks to the cello, answering the vocals on every turn, it's 4 guys and a girl kicking out the jams. Redbutton has begun rotation of "Great Tales" as of 4/30/99 and reports are in that the band will debut at number one on the Wishlist indie music chart this 5/5/99The band has recently begun playing here locally in and around San Francisco. Their first show ever at Bottom of the Hill had 150 devotees under their nose, and they were the opener. Probably one of the fastest rising stars on the scene since we can remember, because of their undeniable songs and captivating live show (we've seen them). Think FUN and radio, radio, radio-we would definitely buy it!From Redbutton.com |
