Singing Sisters Seek Stardom -- The Spectrum 11/03/2002 ST. GEORGE -- Two sisters are making a name for themselves in the music industry with their original alternative pop hits. Meg Frampton, 17, and Dia Frampton,15, performed in the "V" at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas last week. It was part of their grand prize for winning a talent search show sponsored by KLUC radio at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel Oct. 13. The Framptons were interviewed by local television and radio stations in Las Vegas after winning the KLUC contest in an unanimous vote by a panel of five judges, including former MTV VJ Ray Munns. They also received $500 in studio recording time and were recommended to sing at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. "They have the right look, the right attitude and the right talent," said Laura Herlovich, a producer of the KLUC Superstar show. "If they get in front of the right people, I can't believe they wouldn't be on a national label in the next couple of years," Herlovich said. Described as alternative pop music of the genre of Avril Lavigne and Michelle Branch, Dia sings and Meg composes the music and harmonizes on the guitar. Meg has composed 30 songs, over the past year. She said her best ideas for songs come at odd times -- late at night or on a walk alone, an idea will pop into her head and she'll run to find a place to write. "My ideas mostly come from problems," Meg said. "I write about love, relationships and my perspective on life." And Dia has been singing for as long as she can remember. As early as age 11 she sang at Christmas parties and won a Farm Bureau talent find contest at age 12. For two years, the girls have been playing locally at events in the area such as the Utah State Fair and Santa Clara Swiss Days with their local band, Altamyra. Now they hope to make a name for themselves as they continue to record and write albums. Meg said their dream is to get signed, play in another country and to start touring and singing. "I think they're going to have a bright future," Herlovich said. By KALLEE NIELSEN All images, lyrics and music © by the Framptons
