Artist description
Nineteen5 (N5) is a brand new Seattle rock/alternative band. Thanks in part to a rapidly growing fan base and early exposure in local venues, Nineteen5 are generating quite a buzz in the Puget Sound region. The band quietly formed during the Summer of 2001 and began performing in area clubs early in 2002.
Described by fans as “the new Seattle Sound”, Nineteen5’s energetic sound and musicianship have been likened to local ensembles Pearl Jam, Hammerbox, and Goodness. Lead singer Christine Wayne’s strong, lyric voice and playful stage presence have also been labeled reminiscent of Ann Wilson, who Christine counts among her musical influences, as well as Janis Joplin, Siouxsie Sioux, The Gits, and Stevie Nicks. Several Nineteen5 tunes feature Christine harmonizing with backing vocalist & bassist Anthony Morris, whose sound is compared to that of Chris Cornell’s louder work, but Tony modestly demurs and says he just makes “background noise.”
In February 2002, Nineteen5 announced the availability of four new high-quality demo tracks: Dum-Dumb, Happy Freaks, Preservatives, and the band’s theme anthem, Nineteen5.
“The band is really blown away by the quality of these recordings,” remarked guitarist and taskmaster Kevin Watkins. “We are really grateful to Greg Williamson (who recorded all the tracks) and The Laundry Room. The recording session was amazingly focused and well-run.” In fact, the tracks were entirely done – recorded, mixed, and mastered – in a total of just 30 hours over two main working sessions. “We all seemed to be agreeable on the music mix, so time rolled by swiftly,” echoed Ken Blessing, Nineteen5’s drummer and self-proclaimed “driving passion.”
