Artist History
MISANTHROPE originated in Los Angeles by four people from three different places in the summer of 2001. It started with two people from Granby, Massachusetts, Gary Goudreau (lead guitar) & Erick Keller (rhythm guitar), with a goal to create the best possible heavy metal music they could. At the end of May, Gary & Erick meet Mike Spray at tower records on Sunset BLVD, while Gary was at work. Mike Spray is a death metal singer from Santa Rosa, California that moved to L. A. with his brother in search of a band to join also. Down the road Mike S, along with Erick, met Mike Nicklas, from the bay area, at The Joint in West L. A while he was working. Mike Nicklas, whom had moved from Reno, Nevada to L. A. in 2000, needed to find four of five guys with the same passion and dream with nothing to live for but this band. Three weeks later they got together in downtown L. A. at an abandoned building to see what they could create. At the end of that night they all knew that this was it. Approximately a week later, MISANTHROPE was born along with songs like carpe noctum , born into the grave , and shredding flesh , as well as others in flight. Three months later there first show was in Upland, California on September 22, 01, with an unreserved bass player at the 2ND ST. Ale House. Two weeks later MISANTHROPE played The Joint in West L. A. Rumors in the area were saying that the building they played in was going to be imploded and turned into parking. With no place to practice, no bass player, no up coming shows, and only two of four members steadily working, MISANTHROPE was suffering. After four months of struggling through hourly studios, searching four 24-hour rehearsal spaces, and tough scheduling, tensions were breaking the band. At the same time Erick and Mike S. were having major differences, which lead to the difficult decision of letting Erick go from the band. In need of a guitar player, Gary turned to his brother, Justin, back home for reinforcement in MISANTHROPE . With the same background in music, Justin was the natural choice. Meanwhile Mike S. impatience with inconsistent practicing, crazy conflicting schedules, Mike S. left. A week and a half-later MISANTHROPE got a studio. From then on MISANTHROPE focused on their music and recruitment for a singer and bass player. With prospects in mind, it will only be a matter of time before they kill L. A. and beyond. |
