Artist History
Kevin Heffernan and Michael Strauss met in High School. In the 70's, they played in a band with their brothers, Dan Heffernan and Mark Strauss. This early band did covers of Eagles, Almond Brothers, Siegal Schwall, and Aerosmith tunes. In 1983, Kevin and his brother Dan started an up tempo Rockabilly band called the Rockaholics. After seeing them drive a crowd into a frenzy one night without a bass player , Mike offered to buy an upright bass if he could join the band. The new band practiced 6 nights a week for the next 3 months. During this time, rockabilly made a strong resurgence with hit songs by the Stray Cats. The Rockaholics started to gain a enthusiastic following at the best local clubs including two opening dates with the Stray Cats in Indianapolis. The Rockaholics continued to play on a regular basis for several years but eventually ended up only getting together once a year for fun due to busy schedules with personal commitments.
In 1999, Kevin and Mike hooked up with Craig (Red) Smith and Jim Lynch to form a blues band, Big Jim and the Twins. This blues band played together for several years until early 2002. At this time, Kevin started writing original songs on acoustic guitar which combined his mastery of rockabilly riffs with his blues background. With the intent to build upon the classic vintage music of the past, King Creole established its own unique sound that can be heard on their latest cd Bad, Luck, and Trouble. |
