Artist History
John Powers has been performing his Adult Contemporary music in the New England area for many years. He has been heralded as a qualifying up and coming Singer/Songwriter by Metronome Magazine. Powers has performed in Colleges, Coffeehouses, festivals, conference showcases, bars, clubs and live radio and television. He has recently opened for national and regional acts such as Spider John Koerner, and Lorraine Lee and Bennett Hammond.Powers started his music career playing in Boston rock bands throughout the eighties and nineties where he developed his musical and songwriting skills. He decided to pursue a solo career and started playing at the open mikes in Boston. This soon led to features at the open mikes, opening acts and packed solo shows at some of Boston’s most popular venues. Powers now performs both as a solo artist and with a support band of talented musicians. |

John Powers has recently completed recording a 15 song CD of original pop rock. The CD, produced by Jim Sampas (Badlands: a Tribute to Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska), includes an all star cast of musicians. The musicians who contributed their talents are Dave Mattacks (Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Fairport Convention), Kenwood Dennard (Sting, Miles Davis) and Billy Conway (Morphine) on drums, Duke Levine (Mary Chapin Carpenter) and David Brown (Billy Joel, Paul McCartney) on electric guitar, Dana Colley (Morphine) on saxophone and harmonica, and Tom West (Susan Tedeschi) on piano and Hammond organ. Background vocalists include Robin Lane (Robin Lane and the Chartbusters), Laurie Sargent(Face to Face), Barbara Kessler, Jimmy Ryan (The Blood Oranges) and David Herlihy (O Positive). The CD was mixed by Fran Flannery (Aerosmith, Creed), Brian Brown (Juliana Hatfield) and Mike Deneen (Aimee Mann). |
