Artist History
Dreaming of Dragons began March of 1999 by Aaron K. Heusel and R.L. Syth. At this time D.o.D. was primarily just a get together and jam project. But as quickly as they started, it became much more serious.
July of 1999 came with four new members to join the ranks of the Dragon Crew. First, Steve Grossman joined on drums. Then came Josh Myers on bass. Finally, Sara Stahl and Stephanie Lindhorst on keyboards. With this line-up D.o.D. performed two shows in Terre Haute, Indiana. It would be the final time.
April of 2000 saw the departures of Sara Stahl, Stephanie Lindhorst, and Josh Myers. It also brought the Dragon Crew into the international spotlight for the first time as they joined onto Milwaukee Metalfest XIV. Efforts were quickly made to salvage a bass player. That would come in the form of Aarons younger brother, Robin.
Milwaukee Metalfest came and went with a very successful set on the Relapse stage. Shows started to mount in Indianapolis and Detroit. This was a good time for D.o.D. until they recorded the Under Dark Cosmic Splendor demo in February 2002. Upon completion long time friend and drummer Steve left the band for reasons being described as not liking metal.
May of 2002 brought a newer face into the Dragon Family. Nikki Dahl joined up as keyboardist and quickly became more than friends with Aaron. Also, D.o.D. were invited to perform at the first annual Metal Nations festival in Raliegh, North Carolina. Efforts began feverishly to find a new drummer. Help came in the form of Kent Hiltz from the band Harakiri. He would become a temporary drummer until a new permanent drummer could be found.
Metal Nations flew by with D.o.D.s most successful show to date. The band decided to record another demo with this line-up. Harvesting the Diseased has shown the extreme side of the band. It also showcases what the band has in store for the future. This story will never be finished……
