Artist description Chris Kyllander wrote his first song when he was 8, and has been writing music ever since. He has a history of performing, which started professionally at the age of 12 when he was asked to train and perform with the nationally renowned Children's Theater Company of Minneapolis. Chris stayed with the company for 5 years and worked on acting, voice, and dance. He then left the company to pursue dance with the kitschy, controversial, and contemporary Ballet of the Dolls. Chris also wrote and published his magazine Salem during these years, which contained poetry, short stories, and interviews with such artists as Tanya Donelly, Suzanne Vega, and Combustible Edison. Chris then put his artistic endeavors on hold and obtained a B.A. in Cultural Studies and Comparative Literature from the University of Minnesota in May of 2002 at the age of 23. He always had the intent of finishing the album he started writing in high school. "It's time for the songs to come together on an album. They've waited long enough. Some of the old songs I still love, but I love to learn from what I've done and take it further. Music is everything to me. There isn't a day that goes by that I'm not listening to music. I've been known to buy music before food," he laughs. Chris writes his own songs. "The songs I've been working on are emotional, and at times quite personal, but always inviting. They are dark, sensual, layered, and cinematic." Chris would like to shake things up a bit and give people a new perspective. "All the songs have their roots in a lot of different areas, but certain things haven't been said before by men so much, and it's time for that to change. I'm open with myself, and won't hide desire or criticism." He's a storyteller who will pull you into his world, and let you play around. We can only expect more to follow from this multi-talented performer.
