Artist History
Take Tool, Alice In Chains, and Live and throw them in a blender. What's concocted is Sometimes Never, a mix of alternative rock that is familiar yet unmistakably different. Expanding on the emotionally charged music that enabled SN's influences to connect with the very depths of the heart, Sometimes Never's sound is refreshing, especially in a market saturated by music that is missing real feeling. "SN is the soundtrack to everyday life that makes you realize you're not alone, someone else does feel the same way you do," says charismatic front man and guitar wizard, Nik Tarascio, 22. Backed up by brother, Greg Tarascio, 18, the driving beat behind the band, and bass player Mark Zuhlke, 25, this trio tugs at the fabric of your soul and refuses to let go.
This year has been and will continue to be a time of rapid growth for Sometimes Never. The band is currently participating in four music festivals, The Downtown Summer Battle of the Bands, The MEANY festival, Good Times Music Festival, and Touring 495, in which they are already creating quite a stir. In July 2003, the release of their second full length album, Atmosphere, marked the start of a national advertising and marketing campaign geared towards creating a buzz for this Long Island trio. SN is also planning on touring the Northeast this fall to promote Atmosphere's release. "We're going to keep rocking as many colleges, venues, music stores, and radio stations as we have to until everyone knows who we are. And then we'll go back and rock them all again," says Nik.
The brothers, working together on various musical projects since 1996, finally established SN with the release of their self-titled, self-produced debut album in December 2002. "Over the six years we played together, we never found anyone who could mesh with us," says Nik, "so we played our first gig at an open mic night with no bass player. That night we got booked to play more gigs but really didn't have a band setup to play live." In a panic, the band tried to find someone to fill in. With only two weeks left, Nik turned to an old friend, Mark, who had played with him 9 years earlier. "The first time we played together as Sometimes Never, there was an energy we had never felt before as a group," says Greg. With the band finally in place, SN took off like wildfire, receiving radio play after playing their second gig. Despite the many requests for the band to play shows, they felt the vibe was right to start a new album, something beyond anything they had ever done before, something that, although self-produced, will stand up to and even exceed the quality of the most popular music. After listening to Atmosphere, Sometimes Never's musical genius is evident. They have created an epic album that takes the listener on a journey through self-reflection.
With a style characterized by contrasting solid "kick you in the chest" choruses and atmospheric verses, SN creates an interesting and exciting soundscape. Colored by lyrics that are witty yet simple, SN can be appreciated for being just good music with catchy hooks. For those who like to look closer however, SNs masterfully written lyrics embody many deeper messages and captivating views on life in general. Despite maneuvering various aspects of the human condition, in SNs music there is one constant, conflict. "Every movie ever made has a conflict. Without that, it would be extremely boring to watch. So why should music be any different," says Nik. It is this concept that gives SN such substance, an omnipresence that all bands strive to achieve but most never do.
With an undeniable, unyielding drive to make their presence demanded by the masses, it is certain that Sometimes Never will emerge from the sea of nameless bands as a powerful voice in music and as a group that truly touches people. Make way for the thunderous arrival of Sometimes Never. The storm is building. |
