Artist History
Rarely does an artist or songwriter move to Nashville and within a few short months, starts to create a strong local buzz and grab the attention of Music Row. Mark Allen has proved himself the exception to this rule.
Like most aspiring music hopefuls, Mark's first Nashville appearance was at The Bluebird's open mic night. He found himself standing in line with sixty something other Nashville new arrivals waiting for their turn to play one or two songs. Suddenly he was in hot demand at all the writer's nights and clubs around the area. This was soon to be followed by office meetings and contracts with Music Row heavyweights such as Pamela Lewis and John Northup.
It's easy to see how Mark has caused such a stir. He instantly grabs audience attention the moment he approaches the mic. His captivating stage presence is equally matched by rangy, enlived; room filling vocal prowess intertwined with classic radio ready song craft.
Mark began his musical endeavors at age ten in a small Virginia fishing village near the Chesapeake Bay where he grew up. He began to teach himself guitar and which was soon to be followed by piano, harmonica, bass and mandolin. By age sixteen the urge to write his own songs and reach an audience began to take hold.
In1992, he founded and fronted his first band, Chesapeake, at the age of 20. The band played local clubs, bars, parties, weddings, fundraisers and even the Delaware State Fair. It wasn’t long before radio station WVES 'Hot Country 99.3' managed and promoted the band. They quickly developed a loyal following and were packing bars to maximum capacity.
Mark continues to strive towards his career development and songwriting. He constantly plays around Nashville and surrounding towns. He is currently working on a new c.d. and band project with former Garth Brooks bandleader, Dave Gant and Flying Burrito Brother Tommy Spurlock. Songwriter beauty and vocalist extrordinare, Jennifer Brantley jumped at the opportunity to join Mark's new group.
He is also a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, (NASI) and ASCAP.
