Artist description
I have created electroacoustic music since 1978. The term electroacoustic identifies a wide variety of
electronic music from the analog synthesizers in the sixties to computer music practices used today.
Computer techniques used to create my music include MIDI (a musical instrument control language),
digital sound synthesis, digital sampling and digital recording.
I also compose music for traditional instruments (an example on this web page is Andante Ritmico
for piano). In addition, computer-controlled traditional instrument sounds can be heard in many of my
pieces. My approach to music composition is eclectic. It has been influenced by Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel,
Charles Ives, Igor Stravinsky, Edgar Varese and Jean-Claude Risset. From their works I have learned valuable
lessons in arranging and developing musical ideas. The intensity and beauty found in their works have remained
an inspiration to me.
My formal studies include 15 years of piano lessons, a Bachelor of Music degree in piano from Western
Connecticut State University and a Master of Music degree in musical composition from Ohio State University.
