Artist History Joe Lamont: Rhythm Guitar, Vocals Luke Janssen: Lead Vocals, Whistling Matt Knight: Lead Guitar Oliver Claridge-Chang: Bass, Vocals Tewe Henare: Drums, Vocals History: Ollie, Luke and Matt played in a band (Mojo) for three years while at school together in Singapore, winning school, and national band competitions. The band broke up in 1994 when Luke left to attend university in London, and Ollie and Matt went to Australia. Ollie met Joe Lamont in 1994 and formed another band (Ubin) doing mainly electronic music. Ubin have played in Tokyo, London, New York, and ‘Big Day Out’ in Sydney. Ubin are currently in discussions with a number of record labels including Engine Room, PolyGram and EMI (see recent article in Sunday telegraph – November 24th, p139). Ollie and Joe are also currently working on the music for the new Coke and Mazda commercials. Matt currently works in Venue music while studying commerce in Sydney University. Matt has worked closely with Ubin on a number of projects and used to play in a Beatles tribute band in Perth. Luke finished uni in London, joined KPMG London as a consultant and got a transfer to Sydney in April 2001. Son of a piano, cello and singing teacher, Luke has been writing songs for over 10 years and is also the best whistler on the planet. Tewe reached number 1 in the Australian charts as drummer and co-writer for “Mother Hubbard” (Alex Lloyd). Tewe also played at “Big Day Out” ran a music studio in Ultimo, and used to manage the Hopetoun Hotel. Tewe left Sydney for London where he lived with, co-wrote an EP and did session work with Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones). Tewe’s song “sown” is currently being played on Nova and Tripple J. Monokini: Luke, Matt and Ollie re-formed their High School band (re-named Monokini) in 2001 in Sydney, with the addition of Tewe playing drums and Joe Lamont on second guitar. Apart from the strength of the material and musical talent Monikni are highly organised and professional with track records in gigging, writing, and recording (and they are also all pretty cute!).
